Squares Upon Squares Pattern

This pattern showcases six special blocks.  Whether made with Shiva Paintstiks and rubbing plates as shown here, or selected by fussycutting a special fabric or embroidering your own special designs, the design gives importance to these blocks by combining them with checkerboard blocks as shown in the photo.

Fabric Requirements

  1. Large scale focus print or hand painted squares ½ yard
  2. Coordinating black or very dark fabric (solid or nearly solid)   3 ¼ yards
  3. Light coordinating solid or nearly solid  3 yards
  4. Medium value coordinating small scale print ¾ yard

Quick quilt version, using Fabric 4 for outer border instead of flying geese: Fabric 1 – ½ yard; Fabric 2 – 1 ½ yard; Fabric 3 – 1 ¼ yards; Fabric 4 – 1 ½ yard
